01

HCA Florida West Marion Hospital

CEO Isaiah Zirkle named CEO of HCA Florida Aventura Hospital effective 12 Oct 2026; no West Marion successor or interim named

CEO / President

What happened

  • HCA Florida Aventura Hospital named Isaiah Zirkle its chief executive officer, effective 12 Oct 2026; the release is dated 29 Oct 20261
  • Zirkle most recently served as CEO of HCA Florida West Marion Hospital in Ocala; he was previously chief operating officer of HCA Florida Ocala and West Marion Hospitals1
  • The Aventura release names no successor or interim for the West Marion CEO seat, and no search or search firm1
  • The HCA Florida Ocala Hospital leadership page, which lists West Marion roles, names no West Marion CEO or president (checked 30 Oct 2026). It lists a CEO for Ocala Hospital, and a shared COO, CFO and CMO for Ocala and West Marion2
  • The West Marion Hospital page describes the hospital as an extension of, and part of, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital3
  • Under Zirkle the hospital completed a $120 million expansion; the new tower opened 30 Sep 20254
  • A $17 million freestanding emergency room, HCA Florida ER, in western Marion County is under construction and is to open in spring 20275

Seat in play

  • CEO / President12

Our read

HCA's 29 Oct 2026 release says West Marion's CEO, Isaiah Zirkle, became CEO of HCA Florida Aventura Hospital effective 12 Oct 2026, and neither that release nor the Ocala and West Marion leadership page (checked 30 Oct 2026) names a successor or interim, so the West Marion CEO seat appears to be open in practice but unannounced12. The next holder may take on a hospital that opened a $120 million tower on 30 Sep 2025 and has a $17 million freestanding emergency room planned to open in spring 202745.

What could hold it back

  • Shown A shared COO for Ocala and West Marion, Lisa Tzanakis, is in post and holds the natural successor seat; Zirkle himself moved from that COO seat to the West Marion CEO seat21.
  • Shown West Marion describes itself as an extension of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, which has its own CEO, so the role could be absorbed into the Ocala leadership rather than refilled32.
  • Open Whether HCA fills the seat from its own bench of executives, as it did for Aventura, without an outside firm.

About the decider: Brian Cook

Brian Cook is president of HCA's North Florida Division, which includes West Marion (Mainstreet Daily News, 3 Nov 2022; still listed as division president on the HCA Florida leadership page, checked 30 Oct 2026). Our read: HCA hospital CEOs are chosen at division level, so he is likely to own the choice6.

Questions to ask Brian Cook

  • With Isaiah Zirkle now at Aventura, how are you thinking about leadership at West Marion: a dedicated CEO again, or closer integration with Ocala Hospital13?
  • With the new tower open and the western Marion County emergency room due in spring 2027, what experience matters most in West Marion's next leader45?
02

HCA Florida Osceola Hospital

CEO David Shimp named CEO of Methodist Healthcare (San Antonio) effective 1 Dec 2026; no successor or interim named at Osceola

CEO / President

What happened

  • Methodist Healthcare (San Antonio) announced on 28 Oct 2026 that David Shimp has been named president and CEO, effective 1 Dec1
  • Shimp joins Methodist from HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, where he has been CEO since December 20211
  • The Methodist release names no successor, interim or search for the Osceola CEO seat1
  • The hospital's leadership page still lists David Shimp as Chief Executive Officer (checked 30 Oct 2026); no interim is shown2
  • The leadership page also lists a Chief Operating Officer (Walter Long) and a Vice President of Operations (Lori Merritt)2
  • Methodist's previous CEO, Dan Miller, was named president of HCA Healthcare's East Florida Division in August 20261
  • Under Shimp the hospital opened four freestanding emergency rooms and invested more than $200 million in capital projects, per the Methodist release1
  • Shimp brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience with HCA Healthcare, per the Methodist release1

Seat in play

  • CEO / President12

Our read

Methodist Healthcare announced on 28 Oct 2026 that David Shimp, CEO of HCA Florida Osceola Hospital since December 2021, becomes its president and CEO on 1 Dec, and neither that release nor the hospital's own leadership page (checked 30 Oct 2026) names a successor or interim, so the Osceola CEO seat is likely to open around 1 Dec with the choice of successor possibly still ahead12. Under Shimp the 404-bed hospital opened four freestanding emergency rooms and invested more than $200 million in capital projects, which could mean the next CEO is sought for experience running a multi-site hospital operation inside HCA13.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The leadership page lists a COO (Walter Long) and a VP of Operations (Lori Merritt), the natural successor seats for a CEO2.
  • Shown Shimp has more than 20 years of leadership with HCA, and his Methodist predecessor Dan Miller was named president of HCA's East Florida Division in Aug 2026, so the seat may be filled from HCA's own bench1.
  • Open Which HCA division leader decides the seat, and whether HCA uses an outside firm for it at all.

About the decider: Brian Cook

Brian Cook is president of HCA's North Florida Division (HCA Florida leadership page, checked 30 Oct 2026). A 2021 UCF release placed Osceola in that division's Orlando market; current membership is not confirmed on a 2026 page. Our read: he is likely to own the CEO choice4.

Questions to ask Brian Cook

  • With David Shimp moving to Methodist Healthcare on 1 Dec, how is HCA thinking about leadership continuity at Osceola through the transition1?
  • After four freestanding emergency rooms and more than $200 million in capital projects, what experience matters most in the hospital's next CEO1?

Intermountain Health

Groundbreaking 26 Oct 2026 on 180-bed Las Vegas children's hospital, opening 2030; hospital president named Feb 2026

Hospital President / Market President: filledChief Nursing OfficerChief Medical Officer / Chief Physician Executive

What happened

  • Intermountain Health broke ground on 26 Oct 2026 on the Intermountain Health Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children's Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada's first stand-alone children's hospital1
  • Plans call for a 33-acre campus and an approximately 828,600-square-foot hospital with an initial 180-bed inpatient tower that can expand to 228 beds1
  • The hospital is expected to open in 20301
  • Planned services include neonatal care, pediatric and cardiac intensive care, emergency and trauma care, orthopedics, cancer and bone marrow transplant services, behavioral health, and advanced medical and surgical care for children1
  • The Intermountain Health Nevada Campaign for Kids received a $150 million commitment from Felicia and Ben Horowitz1
  • The project is described as costing more than $1 billion2
  • The hospital already has a named president: Russ Williams, selected 20 Feb 2026 as president of the Nevada Children's Hospital3
  • Williams most recently held senior leadership roles at Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas3
  • In his new position, Williams will help lead the development and future operations of the hospital3
  • Williams previously held leadership positions at Seattle Children's, Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health and the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and led work including the opening of new children's hospitals3
  • Mandy Richards is chief nursing executive and president of Children's Health at Intermountain Health3
  • Intermountain's chief development officer said contributions for Primary Children's Hospitals in Utah had recently surpassed $640 million3
  • A different president of the Nevada Children's Hospital, Lawrence Barnard, was quoted in the contractor announcement of 9 Jul 20254
  • Contractors PENTA Building Group and Jacobsen Construction were announced on 9 Jul 20254

Seat in play

  • Hospital President / Market President: Filled (Russ Williams named president of the Nevada Children's Hospital on 20 Feb 2026)3
  • Chief Nursing Officer1
  • Chief Medical Officer / Chief Physician Executive1

Our read

Intermountain broke ground on 26 Oct 2026 on a new stand-alone children's hospital in Las Vegas, with an initial 180-bed tower and planned neonatal, pediatric and cardiac intensive care, trauma, and cancer and bone marrow transplant services, and expects to open it in 20301. The nursing and physician leadership of a hospital carrying these services may still be appointed in the years before opening31. Williams himself was hired from outside the system, from Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, which suggests the system may look beyond its own ranks for this hospital's team3.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The system has a system-wide chief nursing executive and president of Children's Health, Mandy Richards, so senior clinical leaders could come from its own pediatric bench3.
  • Shown Opening is expected in 2030, so appointments below the president may still be some way off1.
  • Open Whether a search firm is already engaged for the new hospital's team.

About the decider: Russ Williams

Russ Williams was selected as president of the Nevada children's hospital in Feb 2026, coming from senior roles at Texas Children's Hospital in Austin after earlier posts at Seattle Children's, Riley Hospital for Children and the University of Minnesota Medical Center, including the opening of new children's hospitals3.

Questions to ask Russ Williams

  • Having been part of opening new children's hospitals before, how are you thinking about the order and timing of senior hires ahead of the planned 2030 opening31?
  • With neonatal, cardiac intensive care, trauma and bone marrow transplant services planned, what kind of nursing and physician leadership do you see the hospital needing in Las Vegas1?
  • How do you see the new hospital's leadership team working with Intermountain's Children's Health organisation3?
04

Norman Regional Hospital Authority

Moody's cuts bonds to Caa3 after Sept 2026 missed payment; CEO in post, no CFO listed

CFO

What happened

  • Moody's downgraded the Norman Regional Hospital Authority revenue bond rating to Caa3 following a technical default; the page's timeline dates the Moody's announcement 23 Oct 2026 (the article is dated 28 Oct 2026 and says it reports Bond Buyer information)1
  • The authority missed a debt service payment on 1 Sep 2026; the bond trustee acknowledged the default on 4 Sep 2026 and confirmed short-term forbearance; S&P Global Ratings issued a default rating in Sep 20261
  • The missed payment was cleared on 16 Oct 2026 using proceeds of a new $40 million senior bond sale; existing revenue bonds are subordinated to the new debt; $247.45 million of bond debt was outstanding at 30 Jun 20251
  • The system's own 6 Oct 2026 update says it is not being sold and remains an independent public trust; it describes a long-term recovery plan called Operation Independence and a 3-year strategic plan covering finances, operations and quality2
  • On 24 Mar 2025 the board accepted the resignation of Rick Wagner, Co-CEO and CFO; Aaron L. Boyd, MD became President and CEO; the system said it planned to hire an interim CFO; trustees voted to remain independent and to work with Plante Moran on a long-term independence plan3
  • The leadership page lists a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, a combined Chief Ambulatory Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, and a Chief Medical Officer; it lists no chief financial officer and no chief human resources officer (checked 29 Oct 2026)4
  • Neither the leadership page (checked 29 Oct 2026) nor the system's 6 Oct 2026 update names a CFO, an interim CFO, a search or a search firm42
  • On 5 Jun 2025 the system announced it was discontinuing several service lines, closing the inpatient pediatric unit and the Ortho Stat urgent care clinic, and consolidating some primary care locations, citing rising costs and declining reimbursement5

Seat in play

Our read

Norman Regional's Co-CEO and CFO resigned in Mar 2025, when the system said it planned to hire an interim CFO; its leadership page, checked 29 Oct 2026, lists no chief financial officer34. With a missed 1 Sep 2026 debt payment, a Moody's cut to Caa3 and its older bonds now subordinated to a new $40 million senior issue, the system may look for a finance leader to carry its Operation Independence recovery plan12.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The system has been cutting (service-line discontinuations and a pediatric inpatient closure in Jun 2025) and is restructuring its debt, which can slow new senior hires51.
  • Open Whether an interim CFO, possibly from an advisory firm, is already in post and simply not listed on the leadership page.
  • Open Whether a CFO search is already under way or a firm engaged.

About the decider: Aaron L. Boyd, MD, MBA, FACHE

Aaron Boyd has been President and CEO since Mar 2025; he joined Norman Regional in 1999 as a pulmonologist and intensivist and served as Chief Medical Officer and, from 2023, Chief Physician Executive, with an MBA in finance436.

Questions to ask Aaron L. Boyd, MD, MBA, FACHE

  • As you take the system through Operation Independence and the new senior bond structure, how are you thinking about the finance leadership the next few years will need21?
  • With the 3-year strategic plan covering finances, operations and quality, which other senior roles do you see the plan calling for2?
05

Southwest Health System

CEO Joe Theine named president of CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital, Durango, from 7 Dec 2026; no successor named

CEO / President

What happened

  • CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital (Durango) announced on 21 Oct 2026 that Joe Theine is its new president, effective 7 Dec 20261
  • The release says Theine joins from Southwest Health System, where he has been CEO since July 20231
  • Cortez Current reported on 23 Oct 2026 that no successor has been named, and that KSJD's report of the move cited no announcement from Southwest Health System itself2
  • The CEO is appointed by and reports to the Southwest Health System board and is employed by Community Hospital Corporation, whose management arm, Community Hospital Consulting, has managed the system since 1 Jul 20183
  • The senior leadership page (checked 30 Oct 2026) still lists Theine as CEO, an Interim Chief Financial Officer (Austin Thomas) and an interim Chief Medical Officer (Dr. Jennifer Gero)4
  • KSJD reported the system is expected to see an average reduction of nearly $10 million in annual revenue by 2033 from federal Medicaid and ACA changes5
  • The Journal reported in Feb 2023 that SHS contracts with Community Hospital Consulting, of Plano TX, which hires the CEO, CFO and Chief Nursing Officer6
  • The Journal reported in Feb 2023 that a Montezuma County Hospital District board member sits in on interviews with CEO candidates considered by SHS6
  • On 2 Feb 2023 SHS announced David Faulkner as interim CEO, effective that day, confirmed by the SHS board along with Community Hospital Consulting after the CEO's 1 Feb 2023 resignation7

Seat in play

  • CEO / President12

Our read

CEO Joe Theine starts as president of CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital in Durango on 7 Dec 2026, and no successor has been named, so the board's choice of its next CEO is likely still ahead12. The next CEO would likely take on a leadership page that shows interim holders in the CFO and CMO seats, and an expected cut of about $9.6 million a year in revenue by 2033 from H.R. 1, which suggests the board may weigh rural hospital finance experience42.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The CEO is employed by Community Hospital Corporation, and its consulting arm, which manages the system, has been reported as hiring the CEO, CFO and Chief Nursing Officer, so the seat may be filled from the management company's own bench36.
  • Shown In Feb 2023 the board, along with Community Hospital Consulting, put an interim CEO in place the day after the CEO resigned7.
  • Open Whether an interim or successor was discussed, and whether an outside search firm would be used at all.

About the decider: Eric Croke

Eric Croke chairs the Southwest Health System board, which appoints the CEO; his LinkedIn profile shows US Army engineering and resource-management roles and work as an elementary school teacher. Theine's move to Durango on 7 Dec 2026 puts the choice of the next CEO on his desk8391.

Questions to ask Eric Croke

  • With Joe Theine starting at CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital on 7 December, how is the board thinking about leadership of the system through the transition and beyond1?
  • With the system expecting H.R. 1 to reduce its annual revenue by 2033, what experience do you see mattering most in the next chief executive2?
  • How do the board, Community Hospital Consulting and the hospital district expect to work together on choosing the next CEO, and how open is that process to candidates from outside the management company36?

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Broke ground 19 Oct 2026 on 300-bed Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital; no hospital leader named

Hospital President / Market President

What happened

  • Dana-Farber broke ground on the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital on 19 Oct 2026; the release describes the project as led by Dana-Farber in collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center1
  • The facility is 450,000 square feet with 300 inpatient beds across ten floors; the release names no hospital leader and no opening date1
  • WBUR reports the hospital is scheduled to open in 20312
  • Dana-Farber and the Brigham are breaking up and Dana-Farber is forging a new partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; it has started moving breast cancer patients to Mount Auburn Hospital, part of the Beth Israel system, per WBUR2
  • Over the next two years, Dana-Farber plans to move additional patients in phases to Beth Israel's hospitals, per WBUR2
  • WBUR reports about 200 Dana-Farber patients are still admitted at the Brigham2
  • The operations and administration leadership page lists a Senior Vice President for Hospital Transformation (checked 29 Oct 2026)3
  • The clinical leadership page lists a Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, and lists no chief medical information officer (checked 29 Oct 2026)4

Seat in play

  • Hospital President / Market President12

Our read

Dana-Farber broke ground on 19 Oct 2026 on the 300-bed Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital, which WBUR reports is scheduled to open in 2031, as it ends its inpatient arrangement with the Brigham12. Leading a 300-bed inpatient hospital of its own is likely to call for dedicated hospital leadership that the release does not name, and the move of patients to Beth Israel's hospitals in phases over the next two years suggests that leadership may be needed before opening12.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The operations leadership page lists a Senior Vice President for Hospital Transformation, who could carry the new hospital's leadership3.
  • Shown The hospital is scheduled to open in 2031, so the seat may not form for several years2.
  • Open Whether the hospital's leadership sits with Dana-Farber or is shared with Beth Israel Deaconess under the collaboration; no opened page says who will license or operate it.

About the decider: Benjamin L. Ebert

Benjamin L. Ebert, MD, PhD, is President and CEO of Dana-Farber. The groundbreaking may put on his desk the leadership of a 300-bed hospital planned for 2031 and the move of patients from the Brigham to Beth Israel's hospitals12.

Questions to ask Benjamin L. Ebert

  • As Dana-Farber moves from an inpatient arrangement at the Brigham to leading its own 300-bed hospital, how are you thinking about the leadership team the hospital will need ahead of its planned 2031 opening12?
  • With patients moving in phases to Beth Israel's hospitals over the next two years, what operating leadership do you see the period up to 2031 calling for2?
  • How do you see clinical and hospital leadership being shared between Dana-Farber and Beth Israel Deaconess on the new campus1?

Dren Bio

$350M private financing closed to fund late-stage development, filing and planned launch of dibotatug; two investor partners join board

CFOVP Sales

What happened

  • Dren Bio announced the closing of an oversubscribed $350 million private financing, 29 Oct 20261
  • Round co-led by Juvia Group and Lightspeed Venture Partners; new investors include Mirae Asset Capital Life Science, General Catalyst, Cormorant Asset Management and OrbiMed1
  • Proceeds to support continued late-stage clinical development, regulatory submission and planned commercial launch of dibotatug (DR-01), and expansion into additional indications and the broader pipeline1
  • Sujal Shah (Co-Founder and Managing Director, Juvia Group) and Shelley Chu, M.D., Ph.D. (Partner, Lightspeed) appointed to the Board of Directors1
  • Dibotatug: Ph1/2 study in cytotoxic T-cell lymphoma and LGLL with more than 300 patients dosed; no filing date stated1
  • Leadership page lists a CEO, a President and COO, an EVP Finance, an SVP Head of Commercial, an EVP Head of Clinical Development, an SVP Regulatory Affairs and a VP Medical Affairs; it lists no Chief Financial Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Commercial Officer or head of People (checked 31 Oct 2026)2
  • SVP Head of Commercial Benjamin Kozub joined in May 2026 and VP Medical Affairs Johnathan Maher in October 20262
  • The release states a planned commercial launch of dibotatug; it names no commercial partner, no search and no new executive1
  • BioSpace (29 Oct 2026): the Phase 1/2 trial of dibotatug in CTL and LGLL has a primary readout slated for this December, according to ClinicalTrials.gov3
  • BioSpace (29 Oct 2026): Dren lists the haematologic malignancy programme in its online pipeline as in registrational development3

Seat in play

Our read

Dren Bio closed a $350 million round on 29 Oct 2026 to fund the regulatory submission and planned commercial launch of dibotatug, and its leadership page shows finance led by an EVP Finance with no Chief Financial Officer listed, so a launch-stage CFO may be among the next senior hires12. The commercial build has started, with an SVP Head of Commercial who joined in May 2026 and a VP Medical Affairs who joined in October 2026, which suggests field leadership such as a VP Sales may follow as the launch nears2. BioSpace reported on 29 Oct 2026 that the CTL and LGLL trial has a primary readout slated for this December, which may be when filing and launch hiring firms up3.

What could hold it back

  • Shown EVP Finance Jeff Macfarland has been in post since May 2021, so the company could elevate him rather than search for a CFO2.
  • Shown The company has stated no filing date, and the trial readout is still ahead, so launch hiring may wait on the data13.
  • Open Whether a search firm is already engaged, or whether the new lead investors on the board bring candidates from their own networks.

About the decider: Nenad Tomasevic

Nenad Tomasevic co-founded Dren Bio as CEO in May 2019; before that he was VP of Research at Allakos, which he helped co-found. The $350 million round puts the regulatory submission and planned launch of dibotatug on his desk, alongside two new investor directors from Juvia Group and Lightspeed21.

Questions to ask Nenad Tomasevic

  • With the $350 million round funding the regulatory submission and planned launch of dibotatug, which leadership roles do you expect to add first as Dren Bio moves toward being a commercial company1?
  • Having built Dren Bio from research through late-stage development, how are you thinking about the finance function as the company prepares for a launch21?
  • With a Head of Commercial and a VP Medical Affairs now in post, how do you see the commercial team being built out around the trial's readout23?

Etcelera

Flagship Pioneering merges Cellarity, Etiome and Empress platforms into Etcelera; no leadership beyond CEO and chair named

Chief Business Officer

What happened

  • Flagship Pioneering announced the formation of Etcelera on 29 Oct 2026, created by the merger of the platforms of Cellarity, Etiome and Empress Therapeutics1
  • Ad Rawcliffe, CEO-Partner at Flagship Pioneering, leads Etcelera as CEO; the release names no other executives2
  • Alec Reynolds, Senior Partner at Flagship Pioneering, is Chairman of Etcelera2
  • No new funding was announced with the launch; the three predecessor companies had raised $374 million in venture capital before the merger3
  • CEO says the next six to 12 months will bring substantial business development activity with partners4
  • An oral sickle cell disease drug that Cellarity discovered moves into a separate standalone company, not Etcelera3
  • Etcelera keeps the 2022 Novo partnership with Cellarity in MASH; a second large-pharma alliance is in the works, per the CEO3
  • Company site shows a single line about the three companies and no leadership page (checked 31 Oct 2026)5
  • CEO Ad Rawcliffe describes Etcelera's future as quite partnership oriented4
  • The release states the company's goal includes high-impact partnerships and data services alongside more and better medicines1
  • Rawcliffe said the $374 million the three predecessors raised will help carry the company further3

Seat in play

  • Chief Business Officer431

Our read

Flagship formed Etcelera on 29 Oct 2026 from the platforms of Cellarity, Etiome and Empress Therapeutics, and the launch names only the CEO and the chair12. The CEO calls the company's future quite partnership oriented and says the next six to 12 months will bring substantial business development activity, with the Novo MASH partnership retained and a second large-pharma alliance in the works, so senior deal leadership may be among the first seats the combined company fills43.

What could hold it back

  • Open Whether business development leaders from Cellarity, Etiome or Empress carry over into Etcelera; no page names them.
  • Open Whether Flagship, which supplies the CEO and chair, places someone from its own network or runs the hire through its own talent team.
  • Shown No new funding was announced with the launch; the CEO says the $374 million the three companies raised will help carry the company further, so the pace of senior hiring may depend on existing capital3.

About the decider: Adrian (Ad) Rawcliffe

Ad Rawcliffe has been CEO of Etcelera since its formation on 29 Oct 2026 and CEO-Partner at Flagship since Jan 2026, when he also became CEO of Etiome; before that he was CEO of Adaptimmune (Aug 2019 to Jan 2026), its CFO from Mar 2015, and earlier SVP Worldwide Business Development at GlaxoSmithKline. The merger puts the combination of three platforms and a planned run of partnering deals over the next six to 12 months on his desk2647.

Questions to ask Adrian (Ad) Rawcliffe

  • Having led worldwide business development at GlaxoSmithKline, how are you thinking about the team that will carry the partnering activity you expect over the next six to 12 months47?
  • Now that the Cellarity, Etiome and Empress platforms sit in one company, which leadership roles do you see the combined company needing first1?
  • With partnerships and data services alongside your own hematology, metabolism and immunology programmes, how do you see the balance between partnering and advancing programmes in-house14?

Hexagon Bio

$62 million Series C closed to take HEX-360 into the clinic (first-in-human planned H1 2027); no seat stated

VP Clinical OperationsVP Regulatory Affairs

What happened

  • Hexagon Bio announced the closing of a $62 million Series C financing on 23 Oct 2026, led by The Column Group, with existing investors Nextech Invest, Deviation Capital, 8VC and CPP Investments participating1
  • The company says proceeds will support the Phase 1 trial of HEX-360 (expected to begin in the first half of 2027) and advance additional novel payload mechanisms and dual payloads from its ADC platform1
  • HEX-360 is currently in IND-enabling studies; the CEO says the capital lets the company transition into a clinical-stage company1
  • The release names no new executive, board member or search; it quotes CEO Maureen Hillenmeyer and Board Chairman Scott Garland1
  • The company's leadership page lists a CEO, Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Medical Officer (Bill Grossman), SVP Drug Discovery, SVP Business Development and two VPs (Biology; Synthetic Biology); it lists no CFO, no regulatory, clinical operations, CMC or people leader (checked 31 Oct 2026)2
  • Bill Grossman's own enGene page says he took the interim Chief Medical Officer role there in June 2026 while staying on enGene's board; Hexagon's page still lists him as Chief Medical Officer and states no change3
  • A Clinical Advisory Board of breast cancer experts was formed in June 2026 to support HEX-360 development4
  • A Hexagon Bio job posting dated 4 Sep 2026 seeks a Sr./Ex. Director or VP, Clinical Scientist, reporting to the Head of Clinical/CMO, to support clinical trial design and regulatory submissions including INDs5

Seat in play

  • VP Clinical Operations125
  • VP Regulatory Affairs12

Our read

Hexagon Bio closed a $62 million Series C on 23 Oct 2026 to fund the Phase 1 trial of HEX-360, now in IND-enabling studies and planned to begin in the first half of 2027, and its CEO says the money lets it transition into a clinical-stage company1. Its leadership page is built around discovery and business development, with a Chief Medical Officer but no clinical operations or regulatory leader, and a September 2026 posting for a clinical scientist reporting to the Head of Clinical/CMO suggests the clinical team is being built now, so the leaders who run a first IND and first trial may be among the next senior hires25.

What could hold it back

  • Shown A Chief Medical Officer, Bill Grossman, is listed on the leadership page and could carry clinical and regulatory leadership himself; his own enGene page says he also took an interim CMO role there in June 202623.
  • Open Whether The Column Group's talent team is already recruiting for these seats, or whether a CRO will run the Phase 1 with a lean in-house team.
  • Open Whether clinical operations or regulatory leads have already been hired below the level the leadership page shows.

About the decider: Maureen Hillenmeyer

Maureen Hillenmeyer co-founded Hexagon Bio and has been its CEO, coming from Stanford, where she directed the Genomes to Natural Products program. The Series C now puts on her desk the move from a discovery platform to a clinical-stage company, with HEX-360's Phase 1 planned for the first half of 202712.

Questions to ask Maureen Hillenmeyer

  • You have said the Series C lets Hexagon move quickly into being a clinical-stage company; how are you thinking about the leadership the HEX-360 Phase 1 will need around the start planned for the first half of 20271?
  • As the clinical team forms under the Chief Medical Officer, which parts of clinical operations and regulatory work do you expect to build in-house, and which to run with partners25?
  • With the round also funding further payload mechanisms and dual payloads, how do you see the balance of the leadership team shifting between the platform and development over the next year or two1?

Bothwell Regional Health Center

CEO contract ended 13 Oct 2026; interim CEO in post; board to search for permanent CEO

CEO / President: open

What happened

  • The Board of Trustees decided on 12 Oct 2026 to end CEO Lori Wightman's contract, effective 13 Oct 2026. She had been CEO since 2019. No reason is given in the board's message12
  • The board appointed Mike Harvey Interim Chief Executive Officer. He joined Bothwell in April 2026 as Interim COO and previously spent 18 years as CEO of a rural critical access hospital system in Nebraska13
  • The board says it will 'undertake a thoughtful and thorough search for our next permanent Chief Executive Officer'. No search committee, search firm or timetable is named on the pages opened. The page does not say whether Harvey is a candidate1
  • The leadership page (checked 26 Oct 2026) lists an Interim CEO, CNO, CFO, VP Human Resources and Support Services and CMO. It lists no COO or President; the administration page lists a Vice President for Clinic Operation among the Senior Leadership Team, a role not on the leadership page34
  • Carrie Scott has been CFO since July 2026 (announced 2 Oct 2026); she joined as Assistant CFO in Oct 2025. The Dec 2025 newsletter listed Steve Davis as CFO356
  • Gabriel Anders, DO has been Chief Medical Officer since Oct 2026; the Jan 2026 newsletter listed Philip Fracica, MD as CMO37
  • The Dec 2025 newsletter reports the audit for the year ended 31 May 2025 showed a $12.4 million decrease in net position, described as largely accounting adjustments, after 'a year of turnover and rebuilding in our finance and accounting areas'. It describes a financial turnaround plan and names Ovation Healthcare as consulting and financial services partner6
  • Governance: board members serve four-year terms and are appointed by the mayor of Sedalia and approved by the Sedalia City Council. The hospital's stated mission includes 'remaining proudly independent'86
  • On 15 Oct 2026 the hospital was holding walk-in interviews and a hiring event for clinical and support roles (context only)2

Seat in play

  • CEO / President: Open (interim CEO Mike Harvey since 13 Oct 2026; board says it will search for a permanent CEO; no search firm named)13

Our read

The board ended CEO Lori Wightman's contract effective 13 Oct 2026 and says it will undertake a thoughtful and thorough search for a permanent CEO, with no search committee, firm or timetable named, so how that search is run may still be undecided1. Bothwell describes itself as proudly independent, so no parent system appears to supply the next leader, and its Dec 2025 newsletter describes a financial turnaround plan, which suggests the seat may call for a CEO with turnaround experience6.

What could hold it back

  • Shown Interim CEO Mike Harvey, at Bothwell since Apr 2026 as Interim COO and previously CEO of a rural critical access hospital system in Nebraska for 18 years, could be considered for the permanent seat; the board's message does not say whether he is a candidate13.
  • Open Whether the board has engaged a search firm since its 13 Oct announcement.
  • Open Whether Ovation Healthcare, the hospital's consulting and financial services partner, has any role in supplying or selecting leaders.

What filling it could set off (our read)

If Mike Harvey, now interim, is confirmed as CEO, the COO role he joined to fill on an interim basis, which the leadership page does not list, may need filling. An outside CEO may reshape the senior team below, which lists a CNO, CFO, CMO and VP Human Resources and Support Services3.

About the decider: Deidre Esquivel

Deidre Esquivel chairs the Board of Trustees, whose members are appointed by the mayor of Sedalia and approved by City Council8.

Questions to ask Deidre Esquivel

  • As the board plans its search for a permanent CEO, what experience is it looking for, given the turnaround work16?
  • With a new CFO since July 2026 and a new CMO since October 2026, how does the board see the next CEO shaping the senior team, including operations leadership3?
  • With trustees appointed by the mayor and approved by City Council, how is the board thinking about structuring the search and involving the community8?

Enanta Pharmaceuticals (ENTA)

CEO Jay Luly to retire by 1 Feb 2027; board search under way, internal and external candidates, no successor named; new COO role created

President and Chief Executive Officer: open from 2027-02-01Chief Financial Officer: openVP Regulatory Affairs: probable

What happened

  • Enanta announced on 28 Oct 2026 that Jay R. Luly, Ph.D., age 70, will retire as President and Chief Executive Officer by 1 Feb 2027 after 23 years, and will serve as Strategic Advisor for the remainder of 20271
  • The Board of Directors has initiated a search for Dr. Luly's successor, considering both internal and external candidates; no successor, interim or search firm is named in the release1
  • Tara L. Kieffer, Ph.D., previously Chief Product Strategy Officer, was appointed to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer; the release does not say she is a candidate for CEO1
  • Harry R. Trout III, Vice President, Finance, was designated interim principal financial officer by the board on 26 Aug 2025, in place of the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer; he signed the 10-Q of 12 Aug 2026 as Principal Financial Officer. No permanent Chief Financial Officer is named on a page opened23
  • The management team page lists the CEO, COO, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Business Officer, Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer; it lists no Chief Financial Officer, head of people, commercial or regulatory leader (checked 31 Oct 2026)4
  • Enanta decided to lay off 37 employees, right-sizing across all departments, according to Fierce Biotech (29 Sep 2026)5
  • Lead programme zelicapavir (RSV): Enanta announced on 26 Oct 2026 that the first patient was dosed in the global Phase 2b/3 RESOLVE trial; topline Phase 2b data expected in 20276
  • Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities were $211.5 million at 30 Jun 2026; the company states its funds, with retained HCV royalties, last into fiscal 20293
  • The Phase 2b portion of RESOLVE will include at least 200 patients and is designed to confirm the treatment effect size; the Phase 3 portion is expected to enroll about 660 patients6
  • The CEO retirement release lists among its risk factors Enanta's lack of clinical development experience and its ability to partner its RSV or other programs1

Seat in play

  • President and Chief Executive Officer: Open from 2027-02-01 (Dr. Luly retires "by February 1, 2027" (date may be earlier); board search under way, internal and external; no successor named)1
  • Chief Financial Officer: Open (duties held by Harry R. Trout III, Vice President, Finance, designated interim principal financial officer on 26 Aug 2025; no permanent CFO named on a page opened)23
  • VP Regulatory Affairs: Probable (our read)64

Our read

The board has begun a search for a successor to CEO Jay Luly, who plans to retire by 1 Feb 2027, and is considering external as well as internal candidates, so the choice of a permanent leader is likely still ahead1. The finance seat has been covered on an interim basis by VP Finance Harry Trout since Aug 2025 and the management team page lists no CFO234. The next CEO would take over as the lead RSV programme zelicapavir enters a Phase 2b/3 trial, with Phase 2b data expected in 2027 and funding stated to last into fiscal 2029, which may shape the profile the board looks for63.

What could hold it back

  • Shown The board is considering internal candidates, and Tara Kieffer was named to the newly created COO role on the same day, a natural successor seat for CEO1.
  • Open Whether a search firm is already engaged for the CEO search the board began on 28 Oct 2026.
  • Shown The Phase 3 portion of RESOLVE follows Phase 2b data expected in 2027, and the company decided to lay off 37 employees, as reported in Sep 2026, so a regulatory hire may wait for the data or be covered by the existing clinical team65.

What filling it could set off (our read)

If the board appoints from within, the seat that person holds now, such as Chief Operating Officer (Tara Kieffer) or Chief Business Officer (Brendan Luu), may open. A new CEO often reshapes the seats reporting to them in the first year, and may look to fill the CFO seat that a VP Finance has covered on an interim basis since Aug 2025142.

About the decider: Bruce L. A. Carter

Bruce Carter has chaired Enanta's board since Dec 2015 (director since Nov 2013) and was President and CEO of ZymoGenetics from 1998 to 2009 and Chief Scientific Officer of Novo Nordisk from 1994 to 1999. The board he chairs has opened the search for Jay Luly's successor, with internal and external candidates, ahead of a retirement dated by 1 Feb 202771.

Questions to ask Bruce L. A. Carter

  • Having led ZymoGenetics as CEO for over a decade, how is the board thinking about the experience Enanta's next chief executive will need as zelicapavir moves through RESOLVE toward Phase 2b data in 202776?
  • With Tara Kieffer now in the newly created COO role, how does the board see the senior team taking shape around the next CEO1?
  • How is the board thinking about finance leadership alongside the CEO transition34?

Smilow Cancer Hospital

Chief Medical Officer leaving 11 Dec 2026; national search to be launched, no successor or interim named

Chief Medical Officer / Chief Physician Executive: open from 11 dec 2026

What happened

  • Kevin Billingsley, MD, MBA, FACS will depart as Chief Medical Officer of Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center effective 11 Dec 2026, per an announcement dated 15 Oct 2026 from Eric Winer, MD and Lori Pickens, MHA1
  • He is joining Advent Health, Rocky Mountain Region, as Executive Medical Director for Cancer Services; he joined Yale in 20201
  • The announcement says a committee will be convened in the coming weeks to launch a national search for a new Chief Medical Officer; it names no successor, interim or search firm1
  • The Yale Cancer Center and Smilow leadership page lists Billingsley as Chief Medical Officer (checked 26 Oct 2026; page updated 21 Apr 2026). It also lists Mehra Golshan, MD as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services and Lynn Wilson, MD as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Radiation Oncology Services, Scott Huntington, MD as Chief Quality Officer, and Sarah Schellhorn, MD as Chief Ambulatory Officer; it lists no Vice President Medical Affairs2
  • Yale New Haven Hospital's leadership page (checked 26 Oct 2026) lists Pamela Sutton-Wallace as President and Acting Chief Executive Officer, Yale New Haven Health, and Lori Pickens as Senior Vice President Cancer Services; it lists Alan Friedman, MD as Senior Vice President Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, a separate seat3
  • Winer is both Director of Yale Cancer Center and President and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow, and Pickens is both Senior Vice President of Cancer Services at Yale New Haven Health and Chief Administrative Officer of Yale Cancer Center; Smilow is described as affiliated with Yale Cancer Center24

Seat in play

  • Chief Medical Officer / Chief Physician Executive: Open from 11 Dec 2026 (Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center; national search to be launched by a committee to be convened; no successor, interim or search firm named)1

Our read

Chief Medical Officer Kevin Billingsley leaves Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center on 11 Dec 2026, and the 15 Oct 2026 announcement says a committee will be convened in the coming weeks to launch a national search, naming no successor, interim or search firm, so the choice of a search partner is likely still ahead1. The seat spans both the hospital and the cancer centre, whose leaders each hold joint hospital and Yale Cancer Center titles, which suggests the committee may look for a physician executive able to work across Yale New Haven Health and Yale School of Medicine lines124.

What could hold it back

  • Shown Two Deputy Chief Medical Officers are in post, Mehra Golshan, MD (surgical services) and Lynn Wilson, MD (radiation oncology), and either could be considered from inside2.
  • Open Whether Yale New Haven Health or Yale already has a preferred search firm for physician executive searches, or will run the search in house.
  • Open Whether the committee has been convened yet, and how its timing sits with the system's leadership, where the system President is also Acting CEO.

What filling it could set off (our read)

If a deputy chief medical officer such as Mehra Golshan, MD (Surgical Services) or Lynn Wilson, MD (Radiation Oncology Services) is chosen, that deputy seat may open. An outside appointee may leave a seat elsewhere, unknown until named2.

About the decider: Eric P. Winer, MD

Eric P. Winer, MD is Director of Yale Cancer Center and President and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow, and co-signed the 15 Oct 2026 announcement; before Yale he was at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he was Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs (2017-2022), and he was ASCO president in 2022-2023. The exit may put the convening of the search committee and the national search for a Chief Medical Officer on his desk1526.

Questions to ask Eric P. Winer, MD

  • Having led medical affairs at Dana-Farber, what do you see the next Chief Medical Officer needing to carry across Smilow and Yale Cancer Center over the next few years51?
  • How are you and Lori Pickens thinking about the shape of the search committee, and how it will work with Yale New Haven Health on the appointment13?
  • With Dr Billingsley leaving on 11 Dec 2026, how is the team thinking about medical leadership through the search, alongside the deputy CMOs for surgical and radiation oncology services12?

Probable roles are our judgement from the facts cited, not announcements.
